Saturday Garage Sales

Ivy REALLY wanted to go to garage sales today. She had her and Lucy dressed, to go cups for the car with drinks, a banana for a snack , shoes on and beds made before I officially was ready. We went to a couple neighborhoods that the whole neighbor hood was having sales.

I saw a couple girls from church. One was my friend Merideth. She was there with her little girl. I spotted this Petunia Pickle Bottle diaper bag and told her she MUST have it. It retails for at least $200 and she got it for $5!
Hollie got a sewing machine and this picture with a cute frame. I think she is going to use the frame for something else.
I got a pair of BORN black sandles, some burlap, and these treasures.... a floral table runner, pink dishes to go with a collection I am starting for my girls, Lucy's initials, a small mason jar (that I put loose leaf tea in)....
a cast iron skillet and these rod iron plates(I saw on a blog to hang something like this on a wall and hang back packs on it or purses).
I spent less than $20 for the whole day, spent time with my girls, sister and friends. A great day!

My latest project

I found this desk at a garage sale for $5. It was exactly what I have been looking for! Here is the finished project. I put it in my room next to the bookcase I had redone. Do you recognize the red chair my mom gave me? I don't have a lot on there yet but I am waiting to find a great lamp and the right accesories that I want.
The top knob I got from Anthropologie. The other ones are from Home Depot.
I got this cork board placemat from Pottery Barn for a surface to write on that would not get my desk as dirty. I wanted floral but they didn't have the right colors. I can always trade it out but this one make it look cheery.
My only question is, Should I distress the desk and bookcase or leave it alone? Thoughts?

Estate Sales

I took the girls to 2 estate sales around LA this morning. We went to La Crecsenta and Burbank.Ivy wanted me to show you the DISNEY ruler that she got.
A cute recipe box (I might use it for craft stuff) with some nice thank you cards.
A cute rooster picture for my dining room.
A candy jar with ruby red lid.
4 pink drinking glasses. I need to start a pink collection since I am a mom of 2 girls.
A hand mixer and 2 mini mason jar salt and pepper shakers.
MY RED CHAIR!!! I left it and was sad because I thought it was too much money. While driving to Burbank I called my mom and told her about it. She said, " You need to tell me about that kind of stuff because sometimes I would buy it for you, like today, I would have bought you that chair. " I said,"Oh Mom, I didn't know we played like that. " She said, Girl we play like that." Oh yeah...I drove all the way back and picked up that red chair! THANKS MOM!!

estate sales+ my girls + my treasures + MY ROCKIN' RED CHAIR = success!

Last Weekend's Garage Sale Finds

Usually, I do not go to garage sales on Fridays but I saw a few. I found my best finds of the weekend. I got all 3 of these shelves( that match my living room) for $5. The lady told me I was getting a steal. When I got home I saw the price tag on the back of each one and I saw that they had been $60 apiece!

I got a cute glass jar to put our summer sea shells in and a cute stool I put in the girls room. I might paint it or leave it. Then I got a couple picture frames and tissue paper.
I had some good success on saturday. I took Ivy, Hollie, and our friend Tiffany. I got the following....
Big basket for Lucy's toys.....
Another boogie board for $5 so Ivy's friend could play with one at the pool.
Games for Matt and Ivy
Friday + Saturday+ Ivy = success.

Saturday Finds

Not much luck today but Ivy wanted to go out searching for garage sales. My sister, Hollie, came with us. Nobody got anything but me. I got a cute little chalk board for $1 and a Pashmina for $3. I like a Pashmina while traveling on air planes instead of using an airplane pillow and I use it to wipe something off my kids in an emergency. I thought the chalk board would be cute to write a menu on or something......hopefully better luck next time!

Garage Sale Finds

Posh Baby diaper bag that my mom got for me for $5. It is a $200 bag. The lady got it at a boutique in Santa Monica. It was hard for her to part with it and I understood. I have some good diaper bags and I might shed a tear when it is time to let them go. I have gotten tons of compliments on it already.
Here are some really pretty blue jars that I got at an estate sale. ( I am loving glass jars right now....which I will post about later.) I got all four for $1. They look so cute that I left them on a book shelf in my bedroom. They have also been a good teaching tool for Lucy as she wants to play with them and I tell her no.

Ivy and I have been going to garage sales for about a month now. It is something that Ivy and I enjoy doing together. She is quite the shopper and at 4 years old can work a good deal when she goes up by herself and asks for the price. It was fun to have my mom tag along with us this weekend.
